Zimtu Capitals Debut at the 2013 PDAC-Caracle Cup Hockey Tournament

Friday, March 22nd, 2013

The Zimtu Capitals foray into the 6th annual PDAC-Caracle Cup Hockey Tournament held at York University in Toronto was a terrific experience. For those who are unaware, the Prospectors and Developers Association of Canada (PDAC) Conference is the world’s premier annual mining convention with over thirty thousand attendees in 2013.

The PDAC-Caracle Cup brings participants from different areas within the minerals industry together in a team atmosphere for some friendly competition. The tournament itself is a single day elimination round-robin, encompassing 16 teams with 256 players from across Canada. All teams compete for the Caracle Cup, donated by Caracle Creek International Consulting (CCIC). The tournament has become a key networking and social event for the industry, as well as an important annual fundraiser for Mining Matters’ education efforts. Mining Matters is a charitable organization dedicated to bringing the wonder of Canada’s geology and mineral resources to students, educators and members of the general public.

Zimtu Capitals Locker Room

The strength of the Zimtu Capitals team was the roster composition. The Capitals added depth by drafting players from other organizations, including Todd Hanas from Athabasca Uranium Inc (TSXv:UAX), Jeremy Martin from Cambridge House Conferences, Jonathan Armes from Lakeland Resources Inc (TSXv:LK), Paul Chow from Pasinex Resources Ltd. (CNSX:PSE), Jay Roberge from Equitas Resources Corp. (TSXv:EQT), and Kevin Bottomley from Commerce Resources Corp. (TSXv:CCE).

“Coach Rose”

The Zimtu Capitals were impressive in their first game, defeating the Cassels Brock Lawyers 5–1. Ross Oldcorn scored two goals in the game; but the MVP belonged to the coaching staff. Co-coaches, Robert F. Rose from D&D Securities and Dave Hodge from Zimtu Capital Corp. (TSXv:ZC), set line combinations and pushed an aggressive strategy that overwhelmed the Lawyers.

The second round saw the Zimtu Capitals square off against a strong KPMG squad in a thrilling affair. The Capitals looked poised to continue into the third round holding a 1–0 lead through most of regulation. However, strong team play was not enough to overcome late penalty trouble resulting in a 2-1 loss. The lone Capitals goal was scored by Bryan Muir, and honourable mention should be given to Mike Leonard from Barrick Gold Corp. (TSX:ABX) whose hard work led to multiple scoring chances.

Although the Zimtu Capitals were unable to advance in the tournament, the experience and the relationships forged were the important take-a-ways. Check out all the great pictures of the Zimtu Capitals here.

Hi All,

2013 marked another successful PDAC for Zimtu Capital Corp. (TSXv:ZC). We would like to thank all the organizers, delegates, and attendees. The tone may have been more subdued than in recent memory; still, the booths were filled and event organizers have released attendance results totaling more than thirty thousand for a second straight year.

For its part, Zimtu remained busy announcing new projects and continued progress on several of its existing holdings including Commerce Resources (TSXv:CCE), Lakeland Resources (TSXv:LK), Pasinex Resources (CNSX:PSE), Prima Fluorspar (PF coming soon), and Western Potash (TSXv:WPX). Sven Olsson, a director of ZC, has written a comprehensive newsletter updating everyone on ZC’s progress and future market trends. The newsletter is a good read and has been attached to this post for all to see.
